David Carter is at the pinnacle of corporate success in Atlanta, recently closing a $14.2 million deal that cements his status as a “surgical” strategist in a world that wasn’t built for people like him. His life is interrupted by news of his father Henry’s death, an event that pulls him back to his roots in Maple Grove, North Carolina, a place he fled years ago to escape the weight of family expectations and small-town limitations.Upon his arrival, David is treated as a “prodigal son” by his sister Angela, the local pastor, and his brother Marcus, who resent his long absence. While David initially intends to sell the family home and return to Atlanta, he is drawn into the community’s struggle to renovate the dilapidated community center and the upcoming Fall Festival honoring his father’s legacy.A chance encounter at a local diner reconnects David with his high school sweetheart, Vanessa Brooks, and her bright, tech-savvy teenage daughter, Jasmine.
